Impact of Separation Distance on Multi - Vane Radiometer Configurations

چکیده

The radiometric force produced by a linear array of three radiometer vanes has been assessed numerically using an argon carrier gas and experimentally using air. The separation distance between the three vanes of the array was varied between 0 and 120 percent based on the height of an individual radiometer vane of 40mm. Qualitative agreement between the numerical and experimental results is shown as a function of operating Knudsen number, vane separation distance, and surrounding chamber geometry. Both sets of results indicate an asymptotic trend in maximum force as the separation distance increases as well as a shift in the maximum force Knudsen number. Small chamber effects for both numerical and experimental results also indicate an increase of force ranging from a factor of 2.5 to 4. Quantitatively, however, the numerical simulations yield forces approximately an order of magnitude higher than observed in the experiments.

Experimental and Computational Study of Area and Perimeter Contributions to Radiometer Forces

The relative contribution to the radiometric force of the area and perimeter of the vane is studied experimentally and numerically. Experimentally, a circular vane, a low-aspect rectangular vane, and a high-aspect rectangular vane were all tested on a force balance, with nano-Newton resolution, placed in a stagnant gas. The computational results were obtained through 2-D simulations using the d...

Scientific Flow Field Simulation of Cruciform Missiles Through the Thin Layer Navier Stokes Equations

The thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved for two complete missile configurations on an IBM 3090-200 vectro-facility supercomputer. The conservation form of the three-dimensional equations, written in generalized coordinates, are finite differenced and solved on a body-fitted curvilinear grid system developed in conjunction with the flowfield solver. The numerical procedure is based on ...

AIAA 2001–0529 Unsteady Flow Investigations in an Axial Turbine Using the Massively Parallel Flow Solver TFLO

The results from two numerical simulations of the unsteady flow in a 1-1/2 stage axial-flow turbine are presented and compared with experimental data to show both the effect of blade count on the solution accuracy and the time-averaged and unsteady flow physics present. The TFLO three-dimensional, multi-block, massively parallel turbomachinery flow solution procedure is used to simulate the flo...

COUPLING MODEL FOR MULTI-COMPONENT GAS PERMEATION PROCESS

A gas permeation model (Coupling Model) has been developed which has the flexibility to be used for different membrane module configurations. The aim of this work is to predict the performance of a single stage gas separation process using membranes and provide a comprehensive description of process parameters like flow rates, composition, stage cut and stream pressure. The significant feature ...

تأثیر صفحات مثلثی بر طول اختلاط و ضریب اختلاط عرضی در کانال مستقیم

Channels and surface water are ways for the transfer of pollutants to the environment and human. When any pollutant is spilled into the channel, the pollutant concentrations are decreased after the travel. Reducing the distance is an engineering expedient. To reduce the distance, mixing in water should be increased. Thus, the main goal of the present study was to investigate the effect of the t...
